Golf

** THIS INFORMATION PRECEEDS THE RELEASE OF THE 2015 VW GOLF**

The Volkswagen Golf is a compact hatchback available in a two or four-door body style. Regardless of body style, the base Golf is powered by a 2.5-liter five-cylinder engine that produces 170 horsepower. A five-speed manual is standard and a six-speed automatic is optional. Standard equipment includes air-conditioning, full power accessories, cruise control, a tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel and an auxiliary audio jack.

Golf Specifications Continued
The Golf TDI model features a 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbodiesel that produces 140 hp and a robust 236 pound-feet of torque. A six-speed manual is standard and VW’s six-speed dual-clutch automated manual (DSG) is optional. EPA-estimated combined fuel economy is an impressive 34 mpg. The TDI trim also adds alloy wheels, a sport-tuned suspension, Bluetooth and an upgraded stereo with touchscreen interface and an iPod interface. A navigation system and xenon headlamps are optional.

Like the Rabbit before it and the Golf before that, the current Volkswagen Golf stands apart in the compact class with an overall level of refinement that simply can’t be matched. The near-luxury quality of the cabin, the European blend of smooth ride and driving involvement, and the subdued yet classy styling make the Golf’s price premium worth it. Regarding the Golf’s current lineup, we strongly recommend the TDI model because of its higher level of equipment, strong engine and superior fuel economy.

FEATURES AND BENEFITS
Here are the features and benefits of the current Volkswagen Golf.

Logo hatch handle
Our world-renowned logo is perfect just the way it is. (At least we think so.) But that doesn’t mean it can’t work even harder. So instead of just being the badge on the back of the Golf, now it serves double duty as the handle to open the hatch. So don’t worry, that classic hatch still opens wide to fit loads of stuff. It just looks a lot smarter while doing it.

Hatchback design
One of the biggest benefits of having a hatchback is the versatility. And loadability. Which is probably why the Golf is one of the most popular cars in the world. On the outside, it has a compact, sporty design that you can park pretty much anywhere. But when you open the hatch and fold the rear seats flat, that compact little hatchback transforms into a spacious cargo mover.

Laser seam welding
Laser seam welding. Sure, it sounds cool. But what does it mean? Well, it’s kind of like the difference between a jacket with buttons and one with a zipper. The buttons keep the jacket on, but they still leave spaces in between. Whereas a zipper seals the deal, leaves no spaces, and therefore creates a much stronger bond. When it comes to increased control, stability, and safety in every situation, thanks to laser seam welding, we’ve got the situation all zipped up.

Exterior signal mirrors
In any relationship, communication is key. And the road is full of relationships between you and other drivers. Using the built-in turn signals on your side mirrors alerts everyone to your intended next move, which can help prevent collisions.

Hot wax flooding

Before we put the sheet metal on your Golf, we put it through a treatment that we pioneered called hot wax flooding to fill tiny spaces and help remove moisture in the hardest-to-reach areas. The result of that process makes the frame so watertight that we’re able to offer a 12-year limited warranty against corrosion. We call that one of the best warranties in the business. You’ll probably call it peace of mind.

Climatic climate control with pollen filter

Allergies are never fun. Neither is driving through exhaust fumes. That’s why the Golf not only helps filter pollen out of the air, but it also helps prevent you from breathing in your own exhaust. When you switch gears into reverse, Climatic switches gears too, ensuring that exhaust fumes stay outside your car, and clean air stays in. Combine that with rear vents for the back passengers, and you’ve got a climate system that works hard for your comfort—all at the turn of a dial.

RNS 315 touchscreen navigation

The optional RNS 315 puts a 5-inch color touchscreen stereo and navigation system right at your fingertips. Not only does it come with a 3-month trial subscription to Sirius® Satellite Radio³, it’s also great at playing music you own. Whether it’s on your MP3 player⁴ or a CD, your favorites are just a click away. You can even get the MDI with iPod®⁵ cable that lets you easily navigate your playlists, albums, and songs all through the intuitive touchscreen interface. Because sometimes enjoying the ride is just as important as reaching your destination.

Premium VIII touchscreen stereo
On the optional touchscreen stereo, you’ve got an in-dash 6-CD changer, an AM/FM radio, an SD memory card reader, eight premium speakers, and a 3-month trial to Sirius® Satellite Radio.² Did we mention that the CD changer can also play MP3 and WMA CDs with hundreds of songs on a single disc? Plus, you can easily navigate all of that music, entertainment and more using the intuitive touchscreen interface that’s sitting right in the dash of your Golf TDI® Clean Diesel.

Bluetooth Connectivity
You can do more than just make and take hands-free phone calls with the optional Bluetooth® with voice command, phonebook download, and music-streaming capabilities. Enjoy the convenience of simply speaking a command to your phone and standing by as it makes the call for you. Or stream music in full stereo sound through the Bluetooth connection and speaker system on your Golf TDI® Clean Diesel. Or if you choose the 2.5L trim level, you can opt for the Bluetooth hands-free calling system that just lets you make wireless calls. Because sometimes the simple solution is all you need.

Heated front seats
Because we know you’ll spend a lot of time in your Golf, its seats are all about comfort. Not only do they have three degrees of warmth for you to enjoy, they’re also bolstered for extra cushioning around corners. Plus the driver’s seat is adjustable in eight ways, including lumbar support, to help make sure that your drive is a comfortable one, no matter how long it may be.

2.5L in-line 5-cylinder engine
When you get a Golf vehicle, you’ll be seeing a lot fewer gas stations and a lot more road. The 2.5L model comes standard with a 170-hp in-line five-cylinder engine with 177 lbs/ft of torque and impressive fuel efficiency rated at 22 city/30 highway mpg.¹ That means you can drive up to 435 miles before your next fill-up. And it’s probably one of the reasons IntelliChoice® named the 2010 Golf the “Best Overall Value Compact Car over $17,000.”

TDI Clean Diesel engine
Go ahead, pass the next gas station. And the next. And even the next. Because the Golf TDI® Clean Diesel engine sips gas at the wallet-friendly rate of 42 highway mpg.² Yes, you read that right. That’s up to 609 miles on just one tank.³ If that sounds impressive, prepare yourself for this: that T in TDI stands for turbocharged. And this engine delivers 140 hp and 236 lbs/ft of torque for exceptional power right from the start and plenty of oomph to keep you going. You can even add our DSG® automatic transmission with Tiptronic®⁴ to enjoy imperceptibly fast gear changes to go with that oomph. It’s a beautiful thing when a love of driving and a love for the environment coexist under one sculpted hood.

Electromechanical steering system
The electromechanical steering system is one of the main reasons that Volkswagen cars have earned the reputation for sporty, dynamic steering. Compared with the more conventional hydraulic system, electromechanical steering is much more consistent and eco-conscious because it doesn’t produce any waste or require any fluids that need to be replaced. It also helps reduce fuel consumption by drawing energy from the engine only during turning. Sometimes the details make all the difference.

4-corner independent suspension
A lot of suspensions are linked, so when your left wheel reacts to a pothole, your right wheel makes a similar motion. With independent suspension, those little inconsistencies in the road will have less of an impact on you, your passengers, and the way your Golf handles. That’s engineering that focuses on the road, so you can focus on enjoying the drive.

Six-speed automatic with Tiptronic
To add a little sport to your Golf, we thought you’d appreciate the option of a six-speed automatic transmission with Tiptronic®.* That means you can push the gearshift into Tiptronic mode and enjoy the control as you shift gears yourself. Or you can kick it into Sport mode and enjoy enhanced acceleration at the simple push of the gas pedal. Whichever way you decide to drive,  the Dynamic Shift Program® (DSP) will read the road, factor in the hills, curves, and conditions, and then adapt accordingly to help give you increased performance and gas mileage. There’s nothing like having a little power to go with your performance.

Intelligent Crash Response System
After the airbags¹ have been deployed in a collision, the Intelligent Crash Response System (ICRS) automatically unlocks all doors, turns off power to the fuel pump, and turns on the hazard lights. That’s why we call it intelligent. Because it’s looking out for you when you need it most.

Six airbags with Side Curtain Protection
Nobody wants to think about what happens in the event of a collision. Except for our safety engineers. They made sure that the Golf has six airbags standing guard to help keep you safer.¹ In the event of a collision, your Golf deploys the necessary airbags to help cushion you and any other occupants of the vehicle and help absorb the energy and forces from the impact. So if you have a front-end collision, the front airbags may deploy. For a side impact, the side airbags and Side Curtain Protection® may deploy. All depending on the severity of the impact. And all of that adds up to smarter, safer protection for you.

Crash optimized front end
Integrated right into the front structure of your Golf are impact-absorbing elements that allow for compression during a collision. That means the energy from the impact is absorbed by the car, which helps minimize the amount of energy that reaches you.

ABS with HBA
ABS actually serves two purposes when it comes to safety. Not only does it help keep the brakes from locking up during sudden stops, but it also helps you retain control over the steering. So you can still maneuver the car as you attempt to avoid whatever is in your way. Hydraulic Brake Assist, or HBA, works together with ABS to help ensure that you get the maximum braking power from the brake system even if you don’t press the brakes completely. How? It accounts for the suddenness of the braking, and applies extra pressure when you need it most.

MP3 and iPOD Integration
Bring along your own soundtrack for the road.

Control your favorite playlists right from your touchscreen or steering wheel controls.

Besides a standard auxiliary cord, you can also connect your iPhone® or iPod® to the Media Device Interface (MDI) with the MDI for iPod cable. It offers almost seamless access to your mobile music collection through the in-dash touchscreen.

The CD player will also play discs with MP3, WMA, and AAC files and playlists. Or play music directly from an SD card.

Keep all your music right in front of you; use steering wheel controls to play, pause, and skip songs.

Standard on: Golf TDI® Clean Diesel

Bluetooth Connectivity
Talk without taking your hands off the wheel… or your eyes off the road.

Bluetooth® connectivity on the Golf helps you make, answer, and end calls from behind the wheel.

Without Bluetooth, talking on your phone can be a dangerous distraction. Hands-free technology helps make driving safer for you and everyone else on the road.

Just sync a compatible phone with built-in Bluetooth capabilities and start using use either voice controls or buttons on your steering wheel to control calls. After initial pairing, your phone should automatically connect when you start the engine.

Multiple mobile devices? Sync as many as four phones with your car.

Standard on: Golf TDI® Clean Diesel

Navigation
It’s fun to jump in the car and get lost. Unless you actually get lost.

A built-in navigation system can help you avoid wrong turns and the frustrations that go with them. Whether you’re on your way to visit family, headed to the dentist, or looking for the closest shot of espresso, the Golf navigation system will help get you there.

The system displays both 2D and 3D map perspectives, provides audio and on-screen directions, and saves all your favorite destinations to use over and over again.

An added bonus—the navigation display can show the road’s speed limit. It’s a simple way to help Golf drivers stay on the right side of the law.

Available on: Golf TDI® Clean Diesel

Meet radio’s next generation.

The Golf offers a future-forward audio system controlled by a 5-inch touchscreen display. You’ll use it for everything from choosing an iPod playlist to discovering new channels on Sirius® Satellite Radio.

Every Golf comes with 3 months of Sirius® Satellite Radio. So, you’ll enjoy nonstop entertainment no matter how far out-of-town you go.

The CD player will also play discs with MP3, WMA, and AAC files and playlists. Or play music directly from an SD card.

And a set of buttons right on the steering wheel lets you interact with the system without taking your hands off the wheel.

Standard on: Golf TDI® Clean Diesel

Steering Wheel Controls
Change lanes and songs from the same place.

Especially on longer drives, it’s tempting to multi-task. Whether you’re making or accepting a phone call or changing the song, you shouldn’t take your attention away from the road.

With controls built right into the steering wheel, the Golf will let you interact with your phone and music more quickly and safely. You can even manage the multi-function display on the dashboard. Look at the compass so you know you’re going the right way and check out fuel consumption.
