Chattanooga officials agreed Tuesday to spend up to $7.52 million to finish work on two parcels near Volkswagen’s existing plant, The Chattanooga Times Free Pressreports.
A city engineer said no expansion announcements from VW are imminent. Instead, finishing the sites would make them “ready to receive whatever construction VW wants to do,” City Engineer Bill Payne told city officials, theFree Press reports.
According to the Free Press, Volkswagen is weighing where to produce a new sport-utility vehicle. Chattanooga is considered a potential production location, as are facilities in Mexico.
