The 2013 Volkswagen Beetle has earned top ratings from the National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration (NHTSA) . The front passenger, front driver, and roll over were all marked with 4 stars. The side rear passenger, side rear driver both received 5 star ratings. The NHTSA rates their cars on the star system unlike the IIHS which is based on poor, marginal, acceptable, and good. Both testing systems, although different methodologies, measure the likelihood of death or injury in cars.
The Convertible Volkswagen Beetle has not been tested yet. To learn more about the testing system of both the IIHS and the NHTSA you can read more at Consumer Reports.
