Let’s be real. People need Minivans. Because minivans accommodate a life full of strollers, groceries, and sports gear. Not to mention kids. Which is why the Routan – with room for seven, up to 144 cubic feet of storage space, and third-row fold-flat seats – is such a smart purchase. As if that wasn’t clever enough, add the available dual power sliding doors with power windows and an optional power liftgate in back for that extra boost of functionality. And, the ultimate seal of approval, the Routan was awarded 2010 ” Most Appealing Minivan ” by J.D. Power and Associates and given a five-star front and side crash-test rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Flexible, appealing, and safe, with the unmistakable VW performance that’s designed to bring out the kid in you. Because we don’t think you should have to choose between want and need.

Features and Benefits

Roof Rails
Use the available roof rails with silver or black accents to secure all your stuff: luggage, bikes, kayaks, or skis for the whole family.

Power liftgate
The optional remote‐controlled power liftgate and integrated lighting are very handy for opening and closing the rear hatch. Since you probably have your hands full already.

Rear Park Assist
When you’re in reverse, this optional system uses rear sensors to help let you know when you’re getting close to whatever’s behind you, so you don’t back into anything that isn’t an empty parking space.

Dual power sliding doors with power windows
The Routan knows you’ll be carrying lots of people and stuff, so the available dual power sliding doors with power windows make getting in and out a snap. Even the windows are in on the action with optional built-in window shades and driver-controlled rear vent windows that help keep everyone comfortable.

17-inch alloy wheels
These optional alloy wheels are lighter than steel wheels, and that contributes to overall performance. It’s more responsive driving from the wheels up.

Touchscreen navigation
When you need a little help figuring out where you’re going, the available touchscreen navigation system can help you map your route around the country or around the corner.2 Because sometimes enjoying the ride is just as important as reaching your destination.

Cargo capacity
Let’s be real. People need minivans. Because minivans accommodate a life full of strollers, groceries, and sports gear. Not to mention kids. Which is why the Routan—with room for seven, up to 144 cubic feet of storage space,¹ and third-row fold-flat seats—is such a smart purchase.

Vienna leather seating surfaces
It might seem like Vienna leather seating surfaces don’t belong in a minivan, but that’s the thing.¹ They’re perfect. There’s nothing more comfortable or easier to clean than leather.

Wi-Fi router
If you want to surf the Web while you’re on the road, add the available accessory Wi-Fi router to your Routan and go wireless with your laptop, game device or smartphone.

Rearview camera
Once you arrive at your destination, the available rearview camera gives you a real-time view of what’s behind you, to help prevent you from accidentally bumping into another car when you park.

Remote start
Before you leave for any adventure, the available remote start system is handy in extremely hot and cold weather to help warm up the engine and make the interior more hospitable before you climb inside.

3,600 lbs. towing capacity
If you’ve got a lot of stuff to bring along, add the optional trailer hitch and tow up to 3,600 lbs.,² so the interior remains open and comfy for the entire ride.

Optimized steering system
Thanks to the optimized steering system, the Routan handles more precisely and feels more responsive while driving. And all that adds up to the Routan being the only minivan that drives like a Volkswagen.

European-tuned suspension
The Routan may look like a van, but its Euro-tuned suspension puts you at the helm of a powerful machine, featuring a 3.6L V6 engine with 283 hp and 260 lbs/ft of torque.

Six-speed automatic transmission
The Routan has a novel placement for its gearshift. It also includes a six-speed automatic transmission, something not ordinarily found in its class. And that gives you uncommonly smooth shifting. You might even call it effortless. Some people may simply see those things as atypical, but they actually make the Routan rather remarkable.

Alarm system
The available electronic theft‐deterrent system senses if a door, the hood or the hatch is opened while the vehicle is locked. Then it alerts you by triggering the lights to flash and the horn to sound. It also disables the ignition when armed. So your Routan stays just that—yours.

Electronic Stability Control (ESC)
You know when you have to swerve around something unexpectedly? Well, ESC helps prevent oversteering or understeering by applying corrective forces to each of the wheels. And that helps you intuitively engage in proper counter-steering, thereby working with your VW to correct the problem. As for the thing that made you swerve, here’s to that happening only once in a blue moon.

Seven Airbags
In addition to dual front and Side Curtain Protection® airbags, the Routan also comes with dual thorax side and driver knee protection airbags. You may not know where your thorax even is, but the Routan does. And it’s got the airbags that can help protect you in the event of a collision.

ABS actually serves two purposes when it comes to safety. Not only does it help keep the brakes from locking up during hard breaking, it also helps you retain control over the steering in the event of a potential collision. So you can still maneuver the car as you attempt to avoid whatever is standing in your way.
