Touareg

The Volkswagen Touareg is a midsize SUV designed to provide rugged off-road ability as well as a refined everyday driving experience. At this mission, it succeeds, as very few SUVs in the Touareg’s price range can match its go-anywhere ability or luxurious five-passenger interior.

Engineered to offer the type of on-road driving dynamics VW drivers have come to expect, the Touareg was co-developed with Porsche and shares its basic architecture with the Cayenne. take a look at what the Touareg has to offer.

Features and Benefits

Panoramic sunroof
With the available panoramic power-sliding sunroof, you can make the great outdoors the ultimate addition to your ride. You’ll have a gorgeous view of blue sky when you’re driving or riding inside the all-new Touareg. That’s right, the back seats get the view, too.

Laser seam welding
Laser seam welding. Sure, it sounds cool. But what does it mean? Well, it’s kind of like the difference between a jacket with buttons and one with a zipper. The buttons keep the jacket on, but they still leave spaces in between. Whereas a zipper seals the deal, leaves no spaces, and therefore creates a much stronger bond. When it comes to increased control, stability, and safety in virtually every situation, thanks to laser seam welding, we’ve got the situation all zipped up.

Remote rear liftgate
Using just your key, you can open and close the rear liftgate with a simple press of the button. So loading groceries, or gardening supplies, or your latest find from your favorite vintage store into the trunk just got a whole lot easier.

Bi-Xenon™ headlights with AFS
Those Bi-Xenon™ headlights must know they’re amazing or they wouldn’t stare so confidently, would they? Brighter than halogen or regular filament bulbs, the Bi-Xenon light is created by an arc of electricity inside the bulb that’s filled with xenon gas. It’s so effective that both the low and the high beams can use the same bulb. The Adaptive Front-lighting System (AFS) comes standard with the Bi-Xenon headlights and actually turns the headlight up to 15 degrees to bend the light around corners, helping you to effectively see into the future.

Keyless access with push-button start
The days of locking your keys in the car are over thanks to the optional keyless access with push-button start feature. With your keys in your pocket or purse, your doors will automatically unlock as you touch the driver’s side door handle. Then, once you’re inside, a simple press of the start button turns on the ignition so you can drive off on your next adventure.

Navigation with 3D landmarks
The all-new Touareg comes with our top-of-the-line navigation system complete with 3D landmarks. So the world that you see ahead of you is replicated right in the full-color display in the dash, helping make it easier to navigate your way to your next destination. In fact, turn-by-turn directions are also displayed in color in the trip computer, right in your line of sight behind the steering wheel, so you don’t have to take your eyes off the road to find your way. On the all-new, supercharged hybrid Touareg, the navigation system also includes an onscreen display of hybrid system information that helps you monitor your energy usage, driving range, and battery percentage. So you can help maximize your power and minimize your trips to the gas station.

620-watt Dynaudio® sound system
Thanks to the available 620-watt Dynaudio® sound system with 10 premium speakers and DSP® technology, road noise will practically disappear as you spend mile after mile listening to music through the premium touchscreen sound system. For even more choices, connect your MDI with iPod®³ cable and navigate all of your playlists, songs, and podcasts through the touchscreen interface while your iPod recharges on the road. Or stream tunes straight from your phone using your Bluetooth®-enabled cell phone with audio-streaming capabilities.

Heated rear reclining seats
For those days when a little customization is in order, we gave the all-new Touareg rear reclining seats that slide forward and back—with the option of heating them—so your passengers can stretch out and relax, or you can put a little extra cargo in back.

Memory seating
When you climb in the cockpit, you and your front passenger can fine-tune the available 12-way power front seats exactly the way you like them, and then have the option of letting the all-new Touareg remember the settings for you. Automatically.

World’s first supercharged hybrid powertrain
Not only does the all-new Touareg have the world’s first supercharged hybrid powertrain, but it packs a powerful punch with a combined output of 380 hp and 425 lbs/ft of torque. And when it’s traveling at Autobahn speeds, the engine can switch off and the all-new Touareg can coast without using fuel.³ Which is what the Volkswagen engineers call “coasting,” and what the planet calls “breathing easier.”

7,700 lbs. towing capacity
When you drive a high-performance SUV, it’s only natural that you’d want it to function like a truck when you need it to. Which is why we designed the all-new Touareg with the ability to tow up to 7,700 lbs. So whether you’ve got a camper, a trailer, or a small airplane in tow, the Touareg has the power to get you and your stuff anywhere you need to go.

4MOTION® all-wheel drive system
With 4MOTION® all-wheel drive on your side, the Touareg can navigate almost any type of terrain with ease. That’s because the special power distribution technology contained within the drivetrain, called a Torsen differential, instantly reacts to any changes in wheel slippage and adjusts power to each individual wheel accordingly. And with its maintenance-free design, you get all the benefits without ever having to lift a finger.

V6 FSI®
The 3.6L V6 is one of our most powerful engines, and it comes standard on the all-new Touareg with a brand-new eight-speed automatic transmission. With 280 hp and 265 lbs/ft of torque, combined with the 4MOTION® all-wheel-drive system and double wishbone front and a rear independent steel spring suspension, the V6 turns the gas pedal into a gift that keeps on giving.

DVD Player
Escape at 0 mph.

Every once in a while, you’ll find yourself sitting in your car, waiting. Maybe you’re picking someone up. Or waiting for a storm to pass. With the DVD player in the Touareg’s in-dash display, you’ll be entertained no matter how long you’re sitting.

You need to be in park to watch DVDs, but you can listen to DVD audio while you’re on the road. With a larger file size, DVD audio provides one of the best, crystal-clear ways to listen to music.

With the in-dash DVD player, you can enjoy every moment in a new Touareg.

Live Traffic
Traffic problems don’t have to be your problem.

Everyone hates the moment when they pull up onto the highway, only to find that it looks more like a parking lot. Sitting in traffic not only wastes time, it wastes fuel.

Every new Touareg’s navigation system comes with a 3-month trial subscription to Sirius Traffic™. Real-time traffic updates will flag congestion ahead and help find a clear route around the delay before you ever get stuck in it.

Sirius Traffic™ is available in more than 100 cities and on major roadways in both the U.S. and Canada.

Rearview Camera
Much more than a mirror.

Safety:

Back up without a scrape using the Touareg’s optional rearview camera, cleverly hidden under the VW logo on the back hatch.

When the Touareg is shifted into reverse, the camera flips up and the driver gets a live feed on what’s happening behind the car on the 8-inch display. Lines overlaying the screen even show the back-up path based on the steering wheel angle, giving the driver a chance to correct the wheel well before the bumper ever bumps anything.

Packages with the rearview camera also come with Park Distance Control (PDC). The PDC beeps as you get close to an object. In fact, the closer you get, the faster it beeps. When the beeping becomes a continuous tone, it’s time to hit the brakes.

Standard on: Touareg VR6 Executive, TDI® Executive, Hybrid

Every new Touareg comes with 3 months of Sirius Satellite Radio. So, you’ll enjoy nonstop entertainment no matter how far out of town you go.

The Touareg also comes with an HD radio. Listen to free, CD-quality music broadcast digitally from all over the country.

The Touareg’s audio system will also let you listen to a CD, DVD, or SD card loaded with MP3, WMA, and AAC files. Even upload as much as 18 GB of media directly to the on-board hard drive.

Besides a standard auxiliary cord, you can also connect your iPhone® or iPod® to the Media Device Interface (MDI) with the MDI for iPod cable. It offers almost seamless access to your mobile music collection through the in-dash touchscreen.

Get it all set up before you hit the road. Then, while you’re driving, use buttons right on the steering wheel to control the media.
